News

A big thank you to Anne Waddingham who has now edited the ‘Hamlet’ for 104 issues over ten years. With the Golden Green facebook page now very active with useful information, we now feel that the world has moved on and have decided that we will not resume sending out the Hamlet in its old form. We think that following the lockdown a lot more residents are using electronic media so paper is less relevant. I will continue to send out a monthly email with some information of events. But we will need to think about how to reach the few not yet on the internet. Let us know if there is anybody needing to be added to our email list; and if there is anybody unable to access email who needs special help.

The Bell Reopening 4 July

Clare Tanner explains the arrangements for the reopening and beyond:

“Great news everyone, it appears that our government has given us the green light to open on the 4th of July, the news we have been waiting for. As I’m sure many are aware, we have been working, with the help of some fantastic local residents, to make the old pub feel cleaner and fresher although we still have so much to do. All public houses over the last few months have tried to work out a way in which we can open and maintain a safe environment for our customers and our staff whilst giving you the best possible service.

We decided to open on the 4th with a small event. It was supposed to be reasonably low key, however the result after word got out was for us to be over-subscribed threefold! The pub will be reservations only in the rear Bat and Trap Garden (only a few table times left). The rear courtyard tables can be booked in blocks of 3 hours:
12 noon – 3pm
4pm – 7pm
8pm -11pm
3-4pm and 7-8pm will enable us to clean down the areas ready for the next customers.

Please message the pub with a request leaving your contact details and time you require and we will get back to you, or tel. 07881 816227. Facebook: The Bell – Golden Green.

The tables at the front of the pub will be available without booking on a first-come-first-served basis.

Owing to the restrictions on numbers and to avoid disappointment we therefore decided to ensure that over the summer months numerous events will be held. We will advertise them in different ways to ensure our local community can make full use of the asset we have in the village as well as our wider customer base.

We will be holding a Golden Green Resident’s day, where locals and regulars can come and enjoy a summer spectacular. The date will be confirmed for this event in the coming weeks so please keep an eye on the FB page [and this bulletin].

Clare, Nigel and Justin look forward to seeing you all soon. Thank you again.

Virtual Pub Quiz (via Zoom)

Monday – 14 July 8pm
There will be another informal virtual quiz at 8pm. Everyone is welcome to join; it’s just for fun! You need to bring five general knowledge questions and click on https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84053740627

Fete update

The fete would have been last Sunday (and a bit windy!). There is a chance that at some stage ‘Markets’ will be allowed – maybe we could have a market on signpost field with tombola and take-away barbecue … will egg and spoon races and tug-of-war be allowed though…

Village Sign

As you may have noticed, the village sign was taken down last month as the base was rotten. The post will be replaced in due course and the sign itself is being refurbished and repaired.
