Hadlow is a historic village in the Weald of Kent, located on the A26 road between the town of Tonbridge (4 miles) and county town Maidstone (10 miles). A mile to the south is the smaller village of Golden Green. The parish has some 4000 residents and is part of the borough of Tonbridge and Malling.
The River Medway flows through the extreme south of the parish, while the River Bourne, a tributary of the Medway, winds its way past Hadlow Village and Golden Green before joining the main river at East Peckham. At Hadlow, the Weald clay is covered with deposits from the Medway, suited to orchards and growing hops, though very few hop gardens are left in the parish today.
Situated in the Garden of England, Hadlow is surrounded by rural Kent countryside but only 35 minutes from the South Coast and Central London. The international airports of Heathrow and Gatwick are around one hour’s drive as is the ferry port at Dover and international train stations of Ebbsfleet and Ashford.
The nearby town of Tonbridge is a well-known historic market town steeped in history. The entire of Kent has many historical points of interest, such as Hever Castle, home of Anne Boleyn, gorgeous coasts only a short drive away and fabulous countryside. For more information about the local areas attractions, please see the Places to Visit page.
The centre of Hadlow Village is a conservation area and the parish has retained many of its old buildings, most of them listed. Residents are served by a variety of shops, pubs, hairdresser, restaurant, church, library, and medical centre. There is a range of clubs and societies to suit all ages and interests.
On the edge of the village is Hadlow College of Agriculture and Horticulture. Located within the College grounds is the Broadview Gardens complex www.broadviewgardens.co.uk, which is open to the public and where visitors can enjoy ten acres of landscaped gardens, a garden centre, tearoom and florist.
Hadlow is served by around four buses per hour at peak times to Tonbridge or Maidstone. Golden Green has a limited service of one bus per hour to Tonbridge or East Peckham. The nearest rail station is Tonbridge with frequent trains to London (45 minutes) and Folkestone, Dover and Hastings.
