Golden Green AGMs

Monday 12 May 8.15pm

The AGMs for the Golden Green Association and the Golden Green Mission Hall Charity will be held in the village hall on Monday 12 May at 8.15pm and will last 7 minutes – followed by drinks in the Bell. Extract from the Chairman’s report:

“The GGA has had another successful year. Our main activities are: producing the monthly Hamlet newsletter; managing the village hall; a community lunch in January; fish ’n’ chips quiz night in March; fete in June; carol service in December; regular coffee mornings in the hall; and minibus outings. We have a team of enthusiastic volunteers who help with the fete and the community lunch but, 30 years later, it would be good to get more participation from the next generation of village residents. We are of course up against the reality that newcomers arrive with friends and interests across the country and with a limited need to be involved in our little community. But I believe that community will continue to be very important in our lives. So get involved – find out how you can join in – and it would be good to see new blood inject new enthusiasm and ideas.”

Road Closures and Works

If you’re a regular commuter to Kings Hill or Maidstone, I’m sure you’re aware of the temporary traffic lights at the Kent Street junction on Malling Road, which are due to continue until 22 June. Kent Street and Beech Road are closed during this work, while the road is widened and traffic lights installed.

Overnight closures will continue on the northbound A21 on various dates until 2 August. More information including diversion routes can be found on the traffic map at https://one.network/ though we can’t guarantee that it’s up to date! Any deviation from the dates given are down to the contractor(s) concerned

You can report non-urgent problems with roads and pavements to KCC online at https://www.kent.gov.uk/roads-and-travel/report-a-problem. This includes street light faults, potholes, drainage, traffic signal faults and overgrown vegetation (including hedges and grass).

Legal Waste Removal versus Fly Tipping

When arranging bulk waste collection, always check that your chosen waste removal company has the appropriate licence. You can check if a waste company is legitimate by visiting https://environment.data.gov.uk/public-register/view/index. Always get a receipt for the goods they are taking away. Remember that if you use an unlicensed waste carrier who then dumps the waste, any rubbish identified as yours will result in you being fined.
