Michael Nobes
We are sad to report the death of Michael Nobes. Mick and Val were pillars of the village for many years – managing the village hall and organising bingo nights, coffee mornings and craft sessions. Originally a Norfolk man, he came down for a temporary farming job … and never left. A nicer man you will not meet – sleep well Michael.
Caution – Lambing
Please, please be a responsible owner and keep your dog on a short lead in the fields now lambing has started. Only recently, a local farmer reported several of his sheep had to be put down or were injured after being attacked by dogs. Please don’t risk it.
Hadlow College’s popular Lambing Weekend is on 25-26 April. The roads around Hadlow usually get congested at that time, so best to avoid unless you’re attending the event.
Road Closures and Works
SGN are resuming the renewal of the gas pipes in Golden Green this month. However, there’s a great deal of confusion about exactly where and when this is due to happen! The One Network traffic map (https://one.network/) claims that In Three Elm Lane, working eastwards from the junction with Victoria Road, temporary traffic lights will be installed for work scheduled from 4 April to 17 July – although the sign at the junction says 8 April for 10 weeks (17 June)! In Victoria Road, the gas works are slated to be from 6 April to 28 May, also with temporary traffic lights. And despite the fact the traffic map shows no works on Hartlake Road, residents have been notified that the road is scheduled to be closed at the junction with Three Elm Lane from either 4 April or 9 April for two weeks. Chaos reigns! The only thing we can be sure of is traffic disruption and delays for several weeks.
The A21 southbound off-ramp to the Vauxhall roundabout is scheduled to remain closed for safety repairs until 31 May.
A21 Roadworks and overnight closures will continue on various dates. (See the traffic map at https://one.network/ for more details).
More information including diversion routes can be found on the traffic map at https://one.network/ though we can’t guarantee that it’s up to date! Any deviation from the dates given are down to the contractor(s) concerned.
You can report non-urgent problems with roads and pavements to KCC online at https://www.kent.gov.uk/roads-and-travel/report-a-problem. This includes street light faults, potholes, drainage, traffic signal faults and overgrown vegetation (including hedges and grass).
