According to my rain gauge we have had 6 inches in the first five weeks of the year – about a quarter of the average for the whole year! But while it seems soggy and gloomy, sunset is now over an hour later than it was at Christmas, so Spring must be on its way. Lets keep our spirits up. AP

Mission Hall Bookings

Website: www.goldengreenhall.com
The Golden Green Hall is available for bookings. Contact Nicky Whapshott goldengreenhall@gmail.com or 07702 212317. Ideal for children’s parties.

The regular Monday evening booking has now stopped, so we have Monday evenings available in the hall if anybody wants to set up a class or activity. Contact Nicky if you are interested.

We are also starting to plan for a major maintenance job on the hall this spring – painting the outside, repairing woodwork, tarting up the kitchen, replacing the hand dryers, trimming the big oak tree, repairing the planter in the car park. Watch this space. Luckily, we have been doing well on bookings and income thanks to hard work by Nicky.

Golden Green 250 Club Renewal Reminder

The 250 club is for GG residents. There are 250 numbers (£6 each for the year) and 36 prizes in the year of £25 each, so a win percentage of 60%. In reality though it is a village ‘subscription’! The proceeds go towards maintaining the village hall and other activities like our annual community lunch. Note that we try to set a limit of two numbers per person and five overall per household so everybody gets a chance. I’m doing very well collecting moneys – just a few stragglers remaining and then we can start drawing!

If you do not want to renew, please contact Alec Pelmore (alecpelmore@btinternet.com) so he can release the number(s).

If you want to join for the first time:

There are some spare numbers so new joiners are very welcome. If you want to join, please email alecpelmore@btinternet.com with name(s) and address and we will allocate you a number. Thank you everybody for your continued support for the village.

Golden Green Community Lunch

Last month’s event in the Mission Hall was very successful, with 57 residents and invited guests enjoying a variety of excellent homemade fare! The raffle raised £180 for charity. Thanks to all the attendees, raffle prize donors, hard-working cooks, helpers and especially organiser Linda Daker.

Road Closures and Works

On 16 February, at the bridge next to The Man of Kent, Little Mill, East Peckham, Tonbridge Road will be closed from 8am-6pm for electric supply installation works by UK Power Networks.

Court Lane is scheduled to be closed from 8am to 5pm on 17-23 February from The Forstal to the Victoria Road junction for works by South East Water (Although the on-site sign says 16 February not 17th!).

Hartlake Road is scheduled to be closed between the Poacher & Partridge and the railway bridge from 4-5 March for telegraph pole replacement works.

Carpenters Lane, Hadlow will be closed from 3-4 March for telegraph pole replacement works, between the junctions with Common Road and Oxenhoath Road/High House Lane.

Advance warning that SGN plan to resume renewing the gas pipes in Golden Green. In Three Elm Lane, working eastwards from the junction with Victoria Road, the work is scheduled for 4 April to 4 September, and in Victoria Road, from 27 April to 19 May. Temporary traffic lights will be installed but there will be no road closures. However, Hartlake Road is scheduled to be closed at the junction with Three Elm Lane from 4-19 April, also for gasworks.

A21 Roadworks and overnight closures will continue on various dates. (See the traffic map at https://one.network/ for more details).

More information including diversion routes can be found on the traffic map at https://one.network/ though we can’t guarantee that it’s up to date! Any deviation from the dates given are down to the contractor(s) concerned.
