Golden Green Summer Fete
A big thank you to all the fete organising team. We are very lucky in our little hamlet to have quite so many willing to ‘muck in’ and make events like the fete such a success. I think I counted 20 people at 9am that morning putting up tents, moving all the tables etc. from the hall. And by the time it opened that number had doubled. A special thank you as always to Tim Day for the straw bales and Pete Shorter for utilities. And to everybody that attended. As you will see below, Gabrielle is organising another village event on 6 September – put it in the diary now! [AP]

The programme
Roll Up!! Golden Green Association is hosting a late-summer event to benefit our village community. There will be entertainment for all ages, including a magic show (with close-up magic), kids’ games and competitions and a Punch & Judy show (updated to include an anti-bullying message). Featuring popular local DJ Dave Tanner, plans also include a fun dog show, photo booth, face-painting, a local DJ, a sing-along choir and more. (The programme may change as details are finalised).
Food and drink
Entry is FREE to all. Delicious hot food is available from 4-6pm if you buy a voucher in advance – they will NOT be available on the day. GG residents’ vouchers, subsidised by the GGA, cost only £3 for adults and £2 for children under 12. As this event is to benefit villagers, non-residents’ vouchers are £5. Vouchers will go on sale in late July/early August. A bar is available at cost.
Help needed!
Help will be needed with setting up and taking down: erecting/dismantling tents etc, and transporting tables and chairs – please contact Gabrielle (see below).

Well done The Bell team, who have just been awarded a Five-Star Rating for Food Hygiene for the second year running! It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to achieve a top rating so congratulations to all concerned.
Road Closures and Works
The fun starts this month with the scheduled closures of Three Elm Lane, Hartlake Road and Victoria Road over the summer. (See the reasons given by Gary Stone, Streetworks Coordinator at KCC published in the June Hamlet and posted in GGA’s Facebook group)

Mr Stone reassures us that “although some of the above dates overlap on paper, every effort will be made to ensure that not all closures will be in place at the same time”. Let’s hope he’s right …

You can report non-urgent problems with roads and pavements to KCC online at https://www.kent.gov.uk/roads-and-travel/report-a-problem. This includes street light faults, potholes, drainage, traffic signal faults and overgrown vegetation (including hedges and grass).

Nuisance bikes
Kent Police circulated this notice via Neighbourhood Alert: “As we head into the summer months, we’re seeing an increase in reports of nuisance motorbikes and electric bikes across our communities.
“These bikes can cause issues ranging from noise and anti-social behaviour to dangerous riding on footpaths, parks and public spaces. Tackling the problem relies heavily on information from local residents, so if you’re aware of any bikes causing problems in your area [please report it. Call 101 or report online to kent.police.uk. Call 999 in an emergency.]
“Even small details can make a big difference – descriptions of the bike, where and when it’s being used, and any photographs or videos (where safe to obtain) can all help us build a clearer picture and take positive action.”
