Spring is Springing!

Spring is on the way. Well the buds on the trees and shrubs are swelling. Which is why this is a good time of year to be doing our village litter pick, before it all disappears under the verges as they grow. I have been keeping Hartlake Road clear and I know many others have been doing their ‘patch’. But we are planning to get as many as people together on 11th March to clean up the village (see below). All assistance welcome.

The other interesting event this month is the Dementia awareness session on 16th March. This a issue which is ever present especially in our village and puts a tremendous strain on partners and family so we all need to know more about it. See you there.

Meanwhile, I am planning to do a ‘sleep-out’ on March 27th in aid of Porchlight, the homelessness charity; although I am getting a little apprehensive about the weather! A lot of friends have been very generous in sponsorship so far and if you want to help go to www.justgiving.com/alecpelmore.

Road Closures and Roadworks

  • KCC are due to carry out drainage cleaning on 3 March in Cemetery Lane by Goblands Farm. Let’s hope it sorts out the flooding problem there. Stop/Go boards will control traffic
  • Temporary traffic lights are scheduled to continue to operate on Three Elm Lane until 6 March while South East Water carry out maintenance work
  • Blackmans Road will be closed on 15 March for one day, between 9.30am and 2.30pm, while a manhole is replaced

This information was taken from the traffic map at one.network on 1 March – we can’t guarantee that it’s up to date! Any deviation from the dates given are down to the contractor(s) concerned.

(And don’t forget it’s Hadlow College’s Lambing Weekend on 25-26 March, so the roads around the college are bound to get very busy)

Speaking of Lambing …

Are you an irresponsible dog owner? Of course not – but sadly some people are. You know that your dog(s) must be kept on a short lead while around sheep any time of the year but especially now that pregnant ewes and lambs are in the fields. If you know any irresponsible dog owners, be sure to remind them to prevent needless tragedies – thank you.

Easter Egg Appeal

Mark Barrett is collecting Easter eggs for Hadlow Primary School pupils – please hand in to Reception or 10 Carpenters Lane.

Tonbridge and Malling Ramblers

We explore the beautiful countryside of Tonbridge and Malling and surrounding areas. Our guided walks usually start mid-morning. There’s a short break half-way through (bring refreshments) and we usually finish near a pub. You don’t have to be a Ramblers member to try a couple of walks with us, to help you decide if you’d like to join. If you’re new to our walks, it’s a good idea to contact the walk leader beforehand to check that their walk will suit you. For details of all our walks, visit www.tonbridgeandmallingramblers.org.uk
