The Bell has been very busy doing a wonderful job of charity fundraising in August. A hog roast and live music event were held over the Bank Holiday weekend for the benefit of the Alzheimer’s Society, and which raised an amazing £1600.

Mid-month, the VJ Day commemorations included live music from Miss Vintage and Llama Lounge and a display by the Queen’s Own Living History Group, with donations totalling £260 going to the Royal British Legion.

And earlier in the month, over £200 was raised for Hospice in the Weald.

And the Bell would like to thank TMBC Highways department and Colas who kindly at the last minute rescheduled the roadworks they had planned for the bank holiday weekend to make sure the Alzheimer event went ahead as planned. Much appreciated.

New Bell opening times:
Mon-Thu & Sun 12 noon to 11pm
Fri, Sat 12 noon to 12 midnight

The Friends of Kent Churches Ride & Stride

Saturday 12 September, 10am to 6pm.

Golden Green Mission Hall is one of the churches/chapels on the list.

Robert Seall is the local ‘organiser’ [Golden Green only] and has sponsorship forms and copies of the list of churches/chapels that can be visited for anyone wishing to take part. He himself is riding 60 miles this year, visiting all the 25 parish churches along both sides of the Medway between Tonbridge and Rochester, and he is looking for lots of sponsors to help him on the way. Half the money he raises will go straight to our Mission Hall.

For more details please visit https://www.kentrideandstride.co.uk/ or call Rob on 850664.

Are you sitting comfortably?

The Watsons in Sherenden Park were surprised to find a bubble-wrapped garden chair from Out & Out left on their drive with no address or delivery note. Have you been expecting one? Contact The Hamlet (gghamlet@outlook.com) if so.

Save Hadlow College Farm Shop update

– Anne Waddingham

Thank you to everybody who has joined the Save Hadlow College Farm Shop Facebook group (nearly 400) and to those (almost 600) who have signed the Save Hadlow College Farm Shop online petition (https://www.change.org/SaveHadlowCollegeFarmShop).

As you may have seen in the media, the educational administration of Hadlow College and remaining associated sites were transferred to North Kent College on 15 August.

The response to the petition and comments from the new CEO and Principal David Gleed was non-committal. However, our MP Tom Tugendhat’s reply was a little more upbeat. He is due to meet with North Kent College and said ‘I fully appreciate the exceptional role [the college farm shop] has played helping our all residents in Hadlow, Golden Green and the surrounding area in recent months so will work to ensure it remains.’ So please keep signing and sharing!
