Stop Press! Hartlake Road to Close?

As part of their misconceived Local Plan, not only is Tunbridge Wells Borough Council proposing thousands of new homes in Capel and Tudeley, they have come up with the ludicrous suggestion of closing Hartlake Road as the solution to the traffic problem this will pose to the local roads! Unfortunately, the deadline to send your views to TWBC is 5pm this Friday 4 June, so there’s little time to act. Visit the SaveCapel website for guidance.  This is the last chance to make your views known.

Golden Green Association AGM – a free drink to all residents who attend

Tuesday 8 June 8pm in The Bell Garden.

Along with the election of officers and committee, this is your chance to hear about what the GGA has done in the past year, and decide what happens this year. There will also be a discussion about the GG summer fete, so come along if you want to be involved in that. Agenda, accounts and 2020 minutes attached.

Quiz Night @ The Bell

Wednesday 9 June in The Bell courtyard – 8pm sharp.

£3 entrance fee, cash prize. Please wear a mask when not seated; table service.

Quizmaster Bernie presides. Please note the day and date change for this month only.

Golden Green Fete – 15th August?

We are hoping we can stick to the date of Sunday 15 August for the fete and be allowed to egg-and-spoon and tug-of-war, but the rules may all change. It would be good to get more younger families involved with running activities at the fete. If you are interested, get in touch.

Mothers and Toddlers

In an effort to try to reconnect people, we are thinking of setting up a mother and toddler group in the village. Libby Taylor is organising. Suggested first meet up might be a picnic on signpost field. Please get in touch if you would like to be involved.

Friday night is still Burger Night! See Facebook or contact The Bell for the menu.

Free Concert!

The East Peckham Silver Band will be playing at the Bell on Sunday 11th July – 2pm-5pm. It would be lovely to see everybody there. We should be aware that it is difficult for a 25 piece brass band to play quietly, so apologies to near neighbours! A range of music from Glenn Miller to Beatles to Madness.

Golden Green WI Update

The group are still going and we have been meeting through Zoom. We hope to arrange a garden meeting for June and then things are dependent on the Covid situation. There may be more garden meetings and we will return to the hall at some point – Rosemary Blackburn, GG WI President.

Golden Green Hall Update

We have been very fortunate that Diana Gibb’s dancing classes have kept some revenue coming into the hall in a Covid safe manner during lockdown. Her term ends mid July so we can take other bookings from then; and the hall may also possibly be available on some earlier dates. Contact Alec for details.

Babysitting Services

Hi – my name is Eden and I am a year 11 student at Weald of Kent Girls Grammar school. I live in Golden Green and am available for babysitting in/near the area. I am super friendly and get along really well with children of any age (and love animals so pets are no problem). Please contact 07968 962533 for more information

Golden Green Sign

The new post is now looking splendid surrounded by new paving laid by Ralph and his team of willing volunteers and a wonderful oak bench seat created by Peter Hilborn. Our grateful thanks to them for all their time and effort. We know a number of cycling visitors to our village like to rest on this spot.

Dickie

We regret to announce the sad death of Dickie Keefe, a fondly remembered long time resident and benefactor of the Bell. I remember best him for organising the china-shy at the fete – a wonderful outlet for many young boys energies!

Artists’ Open Studios in Hadlow

South East Open Studios is back, and two artist studios are opening their doors to the public in Hadlow: Natal House, High Street and Bourne Grange Studios, Carpenters Lane. Open days in June: 5-6th, 11-13th & 18-20th. To discover art on your doorstep, look out for the local art trail posters and signpost arrows in the village.
